Human. Nature. Built Environment. Scale Jumping Nexus: Place and Space Pattern
The concept of place refers to special and unique combination of physical and human characteristics of a location, ranging from tangible, visible and easily identifiable (e.g. terrain, climate, waters, vegetation, population) to those intangible and felt (e.g. culture, sense of place, comfort). It is used on different levels and scales – from a single site (e.g. building), building block, neighbourhood to whole settlements, cities, urban regions and wider. Here we present several elements of urban places that address human-nature-built environment nexus, reflected in land use (e.g. residential zones, industry, tourism, recreation), transport and mobility, place comfort and sense of place.
