Preparation of materials for energy conversion and storage by controlled mechanochemistry
Mechanochemistry provides a unique means of preparation of novel materials in solventless conditions or with addition of very small amount of liquid, which then acts as catalyzer. On the other hand, recent, still running development of techniques that enable real-time and in-situ monitoring of mechanochemical reactions provides an insight into their molecular background, and consequently into their mechanisms. This allows highly controlled preparations of, among other systems, novel materials for energy conversion and storage. Here, the benefits of this approach will be illustrated by a few examples, including preparation of novel amidoboranes and related materials for solid-state hydrogen storage and composites based on 2D MoS2-type materials for photoelectrochemical water splitting.
