Are there any intraspecific variabilities in snake venom?
Snake venoms are complex mixtures of components like proteins and peptides which are biologically highly active. The existence of interspecific differences is well known in the literature, but whether there are intraspecific differences, with regard to gender, age, locality, etc., is much less known. In this paper, our aim was to summarize the results of available researches dealing with the topic of intraspecific venom variability. Variations of all kinds are a highly relevant consideration when are producing antivenoms in order to ensure all potential toxin activities can be neutralized.
