Economic And Fiscal Support During The Covid-19 Pandemic In Croatia
The pandemic COVID-19 caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus has spread around the globe from China. The human and economic consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic are still difficult to perceive. Governments around the world make great efforts to save human lives but also the economy. Almost all countries had a lockdown in the first half of 2020 year, which slowed the spread of the pandemic and saved lives, and brought many difficulties in the economic and financial life. Although the world has not yet recovered from the first lockdown, the increase in the number of infected in the last few months of 2020 and the first part of the 2021 year led to new partial lockdowns in many countries. This paper aims to research the economic consequences of the partial lockdowns caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and the governmental response to Croatia’s pandemic. The research was conducted on 358 respondents in Croatia. The multiple regression model shows that the Recovery time can be increasing if the Government support measures are not in time and appropriate. Other variables in the models, Activities, Employee support, and Tax exemption, demand decreasing the Recovery time. The results of the survey show that recovery time takes at least one year after the pandemic. The surveyed entrepreneurs are less satisfied with the Government’s measures than the employees. In some activities where a lockdown has been declared, entrepreneurs are dissatisfied with Civilian headquarters measures. The government constantly improved the support measures, but it is enough for private entrepreneurs struggling to survive. Finding a vaccine and starting vaccination before the end of 2020 brings hope for a speedy recovery from this health and economic crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
