Energy and exergy analysis of a nuclear power plant
This paper presents a calculation of energy and exergy efficiency with energy and exergy losses of the entire nuclear power plant and all of its constituent components. The main idea of the performed analysis is to be a baseline for further improvements and optimizations of the entire nuclear power plant or any of its components. Assumed energy efficiency of the nuclear reactor equal to 90% gives as a result that nuclear reactor generated heat of 3335, 73 MW, while the cumulative power of two turbines (high pressure turbine – HPT and low pressure turbine – LPT) was 874, 27 MW. Using these data, it is possible to calculate the energy and exergy efficiency of the whole power plant, both of them are around 27%, which is acceptable. However, the performed analysis show which components can be improved – the future work will be based firstly on these components.
