Impact of TiO2 drying procedure on removal of micropollutants from water
One of the environmental priorities is the protection of water and water courses. The emergence of micro-pollutants in treated wastewater and drinking water indicates the need for finding new treatment methods. An example of such a process is photocatalysis, which results in the complete degradation of micropollutants i.e. the formation of non-hazardous degradation products. In this work titanium dioxide was immobilized on a glass fibber mesh as a carrier. The immobilization of titanium dioxide onto the glass mesh was performed by the sol-gel method with two different drying methods ; classic and microwave using different power. The results of the SEM / EDX analysis indicate that titanium dioxide was bonded to the carrier and the quality of the binding depends on the drying mode and the microwave power. Tests on photocatalytic properties have shown that microwave drying adversely affects the photocatalytic properties of titanium dioxide. The best results of photocatalytic degradation of salicylic acid were obtained using photocatalysts prepared by conventional drying.
