RISK ANALYSIS OF THE OPERATIONS OF INTERNATIONAL EUROPEAN UNION COMPANIES FROM THE SHALE SECTOR AND THE EXISTING SOURCES OF HYDROCARBONS

This paper uses a comparative analysis to research the fluctuations of selected energy sector companies’ shares on European stock exchanges and their ratings from renowned rating agencies. In the light of the above, the purpose of this paper is to consider the possible causal links between these two quantities, i.e., how much they can suggest the existence of risks in the operations of international companies on the European continent. Leading European companies from the energy sector, San Leon Energy PLC and Hurricane Energy PLC, which deal with the exploitation of hydrocarbons from shale or existing oil and gas sources, were selected to study the cases. The paper’s methodological approach is the basic methods of descriptive and inferential statistics, which are used to analyze the trends of observed phenomena in a way that is using the calculated indicators to determine their structures, characteristics, and patterns in particular time intervals. The general conclusion of the proven research is that there is a strong correlation between the movement of stock trading on stock exchanges and the ratings of credit agencies that influence investors’ business decisions.
