Dediscoursification: how discursive attitudes cause wars

The manuscript presents the theory of dediscoursification as one of the major causes of war. Dediscoursification is a process whereby a partner to communication loses his or her status of a moral-discursive individual by violating some key moral-discursive values, thus making it unreasonable for his or her interlocutor to continue relying on discourse as a medium of problem, or conflict, solving. Chapter 1 presents several empirical studies to illustrate the process ; Chapter 2 focuses on individual moral- discursive parameters of language: meaning, truth, reason-giving, and promise-making. Chapter 3 proposes the theory, and Chapter 4 nests the theory within wider frames: republican political theory and the tradition of just-war perspectives.
