The role of AT1 receptors in the regulation of cerebral vascular reactivity - does it mean anything for hypertension?
Tonic activation of AT1R by normal/physiological levels of circulating ANG II is the critical factor in maintaining normal vascular relaxation in resistance arteries under physiological conditions. However, in physiological conditions, mechanisms of the ANG II permissive role in the endothelium- dependent relaxation and the role of AT1R in these responses are still understudied and generally unknown. Endothelial dysfunction (independent of arterial hypertension) is a harmful predictor leading to decreased vascular reactivity.
