On Manuscripts, Artificial Collections and Cataloguing Rules: The Glagolitic Manuscript Register of the Deceased and the Historic Artificial Collection

The main aim of this chapter is to present a description of the Glagolitic manuscript known as the Register of the deceased, 1650-1668 from the Parish of the town Žman on the island Dugi otok, Croatia. It also includes a description of the artificial collection of which this manuscript had been historically been part of. The description follows the new Croatian cataloguing standard: Rules for Description and Access to Resources in Libraries, Archives and Museums, and is the continuation of the authors’ research on the topic. The Glagolitic manuscript is one from the List of Glagolitic codices of Zadar Archdiocese compiled by don Pavao Kero, and has been digitized within the joint project of the Department of Information Sciences of the University of Zadar, Croatia and Vestigia – The Manuscript Research Centre of Graz University, Austria, 2016-2019. The project is called Digitization, bibliographic description and research of texts written in Glagolitic, Croatian Cyrillic and Latin scripts until the end of the 19th century in the Zadar and Šibenik area (Written Heritage). Professor Erich Renhart has not only been a co-director of this project in his capacity as a professional councillor and guide, but also as a person who has offered technical and financial support, and who has mentored and built educational and collegial relationships. He has truly become an essential part of our lives. We are honoured to be given this opportunity to dedicate our work to him. We hope that while reading this article, Professor Renhart will be reminded of happy moments he and his dear Gabi spent in Zadar and its surroundings.
