REGULATED BUCK CONVERTER NONLINEAR EFFECTS PHENOMENOLOGY AND ITS APPLICATIONS

Buck power converter has long list of applications including power supplies, power factor correction, battery chargers, etc. All these applications demand high performance regulation in order to ensure optimal operating conditions for the load. Nonlinear effects which occur in both current and voltage controlled converters are usually avoided and disregarded because of lack of control. Batteries on the other hand are nonlinear components which are usually charged using constant voltage or constant current. However, lately scientific papers occurred which investigate charging of different battery types by variable DC current. This paper investigates nonlinear effects in buck power converter and its nonlinear effects for battery chargers.
