Research with human participants: methodological, ethical and other issues
Research with human participants: methodological, ethical and other issues The aim of the round table is to share experience and discuss a variety of aspects of doing research in applied linguistics involving human participants: 1. Research paradigms and their applications: qualitative, quantitative and mixed methods research (e.g. advantages and disadvantages of different paradigms in doing research with human participants) 2. Issues in data collection and analysis (e.g. validity and reliability of collected data, impact of the research on both the participants and researchers) 3. Research ethics (e.g. informed consent, confidentiality, deception and debriefing), researcher effects (e.g. relationship between researchers and participants and rapport development) Papers can report findings concerning any issue within the subject area of applied linguistics but should include a substantial discussion of selected issues that stem from the hands-on experience in conducting research with human participants.
