COHESION OF HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS AND THE ECONOMY THROUGH THE PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE PROGRAM
The cohesion between higher education institutions and the economy is reflected in the fact that education has as its primary function the creation of a labor force that will direct a particular country pr local environment towards a particular form of economic activity. Higher education programs create an intellectual capacity that will be able to apply acquired knowledge but also to create new knowledge. Besides the university as the most important institution of higher education, the emergence of globalization and the development of the modern economy in the second half of the twentieth century have led to the necessity of the creation of new comparative institutions of higher education that will engage professional education. A polytechnic, whose professional education is preparing students to perform a specific, well- defiend job, is such an institution in Croatia.
