The Coding of Fear in Oral Genres: A Contribution to the Study of Emotions from the Folkloristic Perspective
This paper presents a potential framework for the study of emotions in the oral literary genres as well as their realisation from the folkloristic point of view. Emotions are analysed from two perspectives: what can one learn about emotions from the folkloristic point of view, and what can one learn about the genres and their realisation, based on the perspective of research of the emotion, with the special emphasis on the genre and the way in which the folk narratives are performed. The intention of the paper is to explore the way in which the mythical/demonological legends, legends of the saints and fairy tales respond to the emotion of fear.
