Field Survey of the Danube Limes
As a part of the scientific project Between the Danube and the Mediterranean. Exploring the role of the Roman military in the mobility of people and goods in Croatia during the Roman Era (RoMiCRO, PI: prof. dr. sc. M. Sanader) funded by the Croatian Science Foundation, on three occasions, from 2015 to 2017, systematic field surveys of the Croatian part of the Danube limes were conducted. The Main goal was to obtain positive or negative confirmation of the selected locations associated with the possible presence and activities of the Roman army along the Danube limes. Planned locations were situated in the areas of Aljmaš, Borovo, Karanac, Beli Manastir, and Popovac. Systematical recording of the data, using set methodology throughout the three-year project field surveys, enabled the obtaining of the data of different characteristics in each area and the identification and understanding of spatial patterns over time which will be presented in this paper.
