Economic analysis of different tillage management in North - Eastern Croatia
The economic feasibility of different reduced tillage management was determined by comparing changes in gross margine per hectare between each treatment for 1989, 1990 and 1991. Experiment was carried out in a North-Eastern part of Republic of Croatia, on a pseudoglay type of soil. Field trials were arranged as a randomized split plot configuration, with seven tillage alternatives as a main plots, and four fertilization levels as a subplots. Research evaluated the effects of seven tillage systems (from conventional tillage to conservation and zero tillage system) and fertilization input levels on maize grain yields and gross margine. Reduction of tillage does not affect on return to unpaid labor and management significantly. Lower requirements on operating capital in these tillage treatments could be attractive if the operating capital is limited. Introduction of zero tillage can not be recommended as the tillage practice for this area. It is not competitive because of significantly lower yield and higher production costs (especially because of expensive pest management). Beside that, zero tillage requires special equipment and more operating capital than other tillage treatments used in the experiment.
