Value of Arts and Curatorial Agency in the Post- political Condition: Creative Europe towards Economic Core Aims
This paper aims to explore ways the post-political condition, sustained by the homology between populist rhetoric and the free-market ideology, influences the understandings of the value of culture. As an example, in the Creative Europe programme, a European cultural policy instrument, appears a change towards discourse on ‘consumers’ as opposed to the discourse on ‘audiences’. This is an indication of a shift towards economic arguments and objectives in the field of culture where the citizens became neglected, since the role of „the consumer“ diminishes the role of „the citizen“ (McGuigan 1996).
