Sažetak
Oximes are reactivators of phosphylated acetylcholinesterase (AChE ; EC 3.1.1.7) and therefore used in the therapy of poisoning by organophosphorus compounds (Dawson, 1994 ; Primožič et al., 2004). Quaternary salts (QACs) are group of chemical compounds with broad-spectrum applications. The most extensively studied biological property of QACs is antimicrobial activity and therefore, we have synthesized and investigated two monoquaternary N-benzyl-4-hydroxyiminomethylpyridinium bromides with diverse substituents introduced into the phenyl ring (Py-4-Br, Py-4-F). Our results show that both QACs have no significant antimicrobial activity as compared with commercial QACs. However, both compounds have been shown to inhibit Aspergillus niger growth (MIC50=62.5 g mL-1). The antioxidative activity of Py-4-Br and Py-4-F was investigated by ORAC and DNA nicking assays showing good antioxidative activity for both candidates. Cytotoxicity was assessed on three healthy human cell lines (HEK293, RPE1 and HaCat). The obtained results show no toxic activity for Py-4-Br and Py-4-F, suggesting that these compounds could be possible new antimycotic reagents.
