The paper analyzes two 18th century adaptations of Molière's School for Wives and the Critique of the School for Wives to the Dubrovnik dialect and cultural context in the light of feminist interests. By pointing to symptomatic omissions, alterations and expansions of the two original texts, the contribution attempts to validate the extent to which these adaptations make Molière's texts humorously responsive to the much stricter codes of gender conduct, and yet, from the linguistic point of view, to the much less „refined“ conversational discourse used by Dubrovnik aristocracy of the time.
