Effect of foliar application of complete plant nutrients in liquid form ("Profert Mara") on the yield and processing quality of sugar beet were investigated in two-year field micro and macro trials on three locations (Zagreb, Bjelovar, Staro Petrovo Selo). The mono-factor trials were set up according to the randomised block design with 5 replications. In 1997, the first treatment was carried out with 10 l/ha "Profert Mara" in 1000 l water, 40-50 days after sugar beet germination. The second treatment was applied 14 days later with the same amounts of fertilizer and water. In 1998, the trial was extended by introduction of variants with twice higher fertilizer rates ("Profert Mara" 20 l/ha). In droughty 1997, two applications of "Profert Mara" (10 + 10 l/ha) led to an increase of root yield by 7.7% to 16.8%, and sugar yield by 4% to 15.4%, in comparison with the check (without "Profer Mara"), however not statistically significant. In 1998, with sufficient precipitation, two applications of "Profert Mara" (10 + 10 l/ha) caused a significant increase in root yield (6.5%) only on location Staro Petrovo Selo. Application of twice-higher concentrations of liquid "Profert Mara" (20 l/ha) resulted in a significant increase of root yield on locations Bjelovar (9.0%) and Staro Petrovo Selo (6.5%) relative to the check. Use of a higher concentration of "Profert Mara" in two applications (20 + 20 l/ha) caused a significant increase of root yield (6.7 to 10.8%) on all locations, while sugar yield was increased (by 8.1%) only on Zagreb location. Effect of foliar application of plant nutrients ("Profert Mara") on the processing quality of sugar beet roots was less pronounced.
