Validation of a new hoop test in the assessment of young gymnasts' coordination skills
The aim of this paper was the construction and validation of the newly-constructed hoop test for the assessment of coordination skills in young gymnasts. The metric characteristics of inter- rater reliability, sensitivity and pragmatic validity were verified. A sample of respondents consisted of 30 gymnasts at the age of 6. Six judges evaluated the performance of the qualitative test - hoop rotations. For the assessment of pragmatic validity, 3 coordination tests from the Bruininks Oseretsky Test of Motor Proficiency 2 were applied: jumps in the opposite arm/leg position, pivoting with the fingers and taping of the opposite arm/leg. The results showed that the test is an objective, sensitive, and valid measuring instrument. The results of the regression analysis showed that the greatest contribution to the success of the hoop test has the pivoting fingers test. Finally, the results clearly imply that the test can be applied to check the 6-year old gymnasts’ motor proficiency as a diagnostic tool, but also to track transitory changes during longitudinal research.
