Overdetermined systems of linear equations
Optimization problems are very often used in engineering and life sciences. Overdetermined systems are a basic starting point in setting up and studying optimization problems. We will present here a brief overview of the theory of overdetermined systems of linear equations. The aim of this presentation is to investigate overdetermined systems of linear equations by using norms and inner products. Relying on the theory of projections, we examine the nature of the set of optimal solutions of the given overdetermined system. This review also provides a brief functional approach to the above problem by utilizing p-norms. In all of this, we strive to apply the elements of convex analysis as much as possible.
