Listening to Cochrane Evidence: a case study of Croatian Cochrane podcast usage

Background: the Cochrane Library podcast project was launched in January 2008 with the aim of delivering the latest Cochrane evidence in a freely available and easy to access audio format. Translation teams are able to translate the English script of the 'mediagenic' podcast, record it, and publish it alongside the English version to ensure that translated versions are accessible to interested listeners. Since 2015, Cochrane Croatia has been involved in the translation and recording of Cochrane podcasts, thanks to three grants received from the Croatian Ministry of Science and Education for the ‘Popularisation of Science’. So far, over 100 translated podcasts have been published, and are accessible via the Cochrane website, Cochrane Library, Cochrane Croatia website, Facebook page, Twitter Account and iTunes. They are also regularly aired on a local radio station. No detailed analysis of Croatian Cochrane podcast usage has been conducted thus far. Objectives: to find out: 1) how many people are listening to Croatian Cochrane podcasts ; 2) which podcasts are the most popular ; 3) trends in podcast access ; and 4) which countries or regions are accessing the podcasts. Methods: an in-depth analysis of available Croatian Cochrane podcast access data will be conducted during 2019, including: 1) number of unique page views on Cochrane.org ; 2) average time on podcast page ; 3) top five podcasts for 2017-2019 ; and 4) number of views on iTunes. Results: to be presented at the Cochrane Colloquium in Santiago, Chile. Conclusions: with this in-depth analysis of podcast usage, we hope to provide insight into the level of awareness of Croatian Cochrane podcasts, and to identify which topics are the most popular, and how they are accessed. This information will be useful to all Cochrane groups in planning their translation activities and promotion of Cochrane evidence. Patient or healthcare consumer involvement: patients and consumers were involved in the translation and recording of Croatian Cochrane podcasts.
