Agronomic traits of grass-clover mixtures at different locations in western Croatia
The grass-clover mixtures are an important source of good voluminous animal feed. In Croatia the mixtures are grown much less and have been little studied. In addition, Croatia has a low number of forege grass and clover varieties. The producers often grow foreign selections not tested in Croatian growing conditions. Purpose of these research was (1) to study the response of foreign grass-clover mixtures in agronomic and chemical traits to thewest Croatian growing conditions, and (2) to determine the most suitable mixtures and recommend then to producers. 14 foreign grass-clover mixtures (five from Austria-RWA, three from Germany-DSV, six from Slovenia-Semenarna) and a domestic one (Bc Institute Zagreb) were seeded in an experiment at three locations (Vrbovec, Otocac, and Medvednica). The experiment was set up as a RCBD with four replications. The experiment plots were 2m x 6m large. Seeding, 25kg of mixture per ha, was done by hand. After determining green matter per plot, samples (about 1 kg/plot) were taken, dried at 60 0C and air dry matteryield was determined. The dried samples were used for chemical analyses too.
