3D Printing Technologies for Clothing Industry: A Review
3D printing represents a process for making a physical object from a three-dimensional digital model, typically by laying down many successive thin layers of a material. It brings a digital object into its physical form by adding layer by layer of materials. This technology is represented in a large number of different production sectors, especially in the modern aviation industry, construction industry, clothing industry, automotive industry, shipbuilding, medicine, dentistry, film industry and various design and artistic fields. The quality implementation of 3D printing technologies in each of the mentioned branches of production is important. The earliest 3D printing technologies first became visible in the late 1980’s, and then they were called Rapid Prototyping (RP) technologies. This is because the processes were originally conceived as a fast and more cost-effective method for creating various prototypes for product development within industry. The paper presents the development of 3D printing technology as well as the opportunities it provides for the clothing and fashion industry.
