The relevance of context for social remittances
The transfer of social remittances does not take place out of context ; as an interactive, dynamic process between a returning migrant and local recipients, “remitting” is embedded in a social field (Bourdieu) or configuration (Elias), in which interactions between “the established and the outsider” (Elias/Scottson) unfold. The contribution focusses on the relevance of local contexts conditioning the social processes and dynamics of “remitting” based on qualitative interviews with migrants, who have returned from abroad in various stages of Croatia´s post- socialist transition.
