The Influence Of Adaptive Change Of Cutting Parameters On The Effectiveness Of Grinding Process

An observation of the action of grinding intensity on the effectivness of grinding of steel particles as well as on the wear of various types of grinding wheels within an adaptively controlled high efficiency grinding process is described. The method applied for the control of the process relied on the denisty of the spark stream developed on the contact surface, as the parameter of the state of grinding process, on the burns showing on the ground surface as the parameter of the grinding wheel cutting surface, and on the speed of the psychomotoric reactions of a skilled, well experienced hand grinding machine operator to the former two parameters. The measurment method was based on the monitoring of the powers developed during the grinding process and on the measurements of steel and grinding wheel surface ground of masses. The results showed that such a controlling method provided the continuous maintaining of optimal grinding wheel profile, enabling a good selfsharpening of the grinding wheel surface, developing almost optimal grinding even at utilization of lesser quqlity grinding wheels, and unlike non adaptive process control, rendered a substantial higher grinding efficiency at a considerably lower grinding power.
