Qualifications of MET Instructors – Case Study Republic of Croatia
According to the Ordinance on Ranks and Certificates of Qualifications for Seafarers of the Republic of Croatia, it is the responsibility of MHE institutions to ensure that MET instructors have experience in their profession and course and that they adapt their teaching activities to the technical and other changes in shipping. To ensure that the requirements of the Ordinance are met, MHE institutions usually introduce additional requirements when selecting MET instructors such as having an appropriate certificate or similar. Therefore, the question arises on whether the competences of MET instructors at MHE institutions are in line with the development of new technologies and the increased technological complexity of the equipment used on board. This can be ensured if MHE institutions allow MET instructors to continue sailing. In realising this idea, MET instructors and MHE institutions are limited by legal provisions in the field of labour law and mandatory insurance.
