Jasenka Kodrnja, philosopher of Croatian tough reality
Jasenka Kodrnja was born on March 11, 1946 in Zagreb. She graduated in philosophy and sociology at the Faculty of Humanities and Social sciences of the University of Zagreb in 1971. From 1973 to 1975 she attended postgraduate study in anthropology at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Belgrade, while in 1979 and 1980, thanks to a scholarship from the French government, she was in Paris at the School of Advanced Studies in the Social Sciences studying under Professor Alain Tourain. In 2000, she received her PhD from the Department of Sociology at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences titled "The Social Position of Women Artists". A writer, poet, and amateur painter herself, Jasenka devoted a good part of her sociological career to the problem of the precarious position of women artists, whose presence in the history of art she determined was marked by marginality, subordination and social denial of recognition of their talent and excellence.
