Digitization project of intangible cultural heritage in Slavonia, Baranya and Syrmia
Possibility of preserving intangible cultural heritage of the Republic of Croatia in the current media digital forms is presented in this paper. The concept of intangible cultural heritage includes: practice, statements, expressions, knowledge, skills, instruments, objects, artefacts and cultural spaces associated therewith, that communities, groups and, in some cases, individuals recognize as part of their cultural heritage. Intangible cultural heritage appreciates special protection in Croatia because it represents the inimitable character of an individuals, and the national identity of the Croatian people also. Problems of sustainable development of intangible assets are numerous and partly present because of fragility of mainly oral mode of transmission itself. We see disorganized, poorly documented and dispersion of collected documentation as one of the biggest problems. This paper will point out the possibility of assemblage of modern technologies with a scientific approach of language materials processing that are the unsurpassed and safest choice for enduring preservation. Digitalization is current only safe and right mode of protection because of irreversibility of losses caused by variety of factors intangible cultural heritage is exposed. Example of digitizing endangered speeches in Slavonia, Baranya and Syrmia presents a operational model of preservation of this type of intangible cultural heritage. Application of new technologies and techniques of digitizing and processing the collected data will provide new virtual spaces of exploration, use and preservation of intangible cultural heritage items. Legacy to future generations in form of digital repository of digitized data will enable permanent storage of collected data that is a contribution to the general, national and, local culture.
