Spatial (regional) identity as a concept primarily refers to the perception of space, it is the feeling of belonging to a certain area or place. Therefore, through the expression of certain levels of identity (local, regional, national) in local communities, the values of cultural and natural resources as well as intangible heritage can be transformed into a tourist attraction. Therefore, spatial (regional) identity is one of the most important intangible resources which, with proper promotion, has significant potential in the construction of tourist products. Regional identity is mostly dominant in clearly defined traditional regions such as Istria and Međimurje, while the local and national levels are present in vaguely defined regions such as Bjelovar region.
