Modelling and soft-start control of measurement and transport line

The measurement and transport line is a part of all modern terminals. Adriatic Tank Terminal (ATT) is a liquid cargo terminal located in the Port of Ploce and it is fully ˇ automated. This paper describes the derivative line control in ATT. The measurement line is described and modelled in Simulink-Simspace. It is very important to establish an appro- priate operation mode for the centrifugal pump that supplies the derivative to a tank truck through the measuring line. This implies avoiding rapid and abrupt pressure changes caused by either the sudden shut-off elements closing or the induction motor direct start as the centrifugal pump drive machine. Installing a soft- start pre-filter reduces the impact and prevents the pipe from bursting. The advantage of using a soft starter over a centrifugal pump direct start is shown.
