From the Blood Road to the Partisan Friendship March: Yugoslav-Norwegian Friendship Society
Norwegian-Yugoslav society was founded in July 1945 like a friendship society that operated only at a regional level. Personal contacts and mutual visits from the Yugoslav side in the 1950s were mostly initiated by former internees and members of SUBNOR, which led to the more frequent cooperation between SUBNOR, Socialist Alliance of Working People of Yugoslavia, and the Red Cross with the Norwegian-Yugoslav society. The Founding Assembly of Norwegian- Yugoslav society was held at Trondheim in October 1966, which marked the beginning of Society’s well-organized work on a state level, and establishment of branches in few places across Norway.YNS represents an extraordinary success of SUBNOR’s international cooperation because the cooperation happened to be constant and encompassing despite the long distance, language barriers, and the differences in political and social state systems. YNS was one of the important channels for a wider promotion of Yugoslav self-managed socialism and the history of the National liberation struggle in Yugoslavia.
