INTERNAL POLICY ASPECTS OF NATIONAL SECURITY

This article provides an overview of the domestic policy aspects of national security threats. The security, viability and prosperity of each state depends largely on how it will preserve or increase its population in the future, ensure a balanced distribution of population and further develop human resources. Negative demographic trends, uncontrolled economic immigration, unbalanced regional development, shrinking and aging populations, wage and pension policies, are indirectly becoming a limiting factor in the sustainability of economic, regional and overall development of countries, especially ones in Southeast Europe. Citizens' security and well- being depends directly on the effectiveness of public government policies, especially the ones concerning judiciary system, public administration and public services. Political abuses in terms of recruiting based on affiliation with a political party in public services and institutions along with appointing incompetent senior executives directly undermines the foundations of state infrastructure with far-reaching implications for national security. The aim of the research is to prove that, today, national security is more threatened by internal political processes than terrorism and global political-military relations.
