Open source tools for integrated operation and planning of flexible buildings and distribution network

The paper presents the energy management tool for smart buildings integration in distribution network planning and operation. The tool arranges long-term (LT) contracts between buildings as flexibility service providers and Distribution System Operator (DSO). The main contract clauses, flexibility reservations, activation prices and penalties are determined by financial and load-flow analysis. For the duration of the LT contract, short-term (ST) modules are running on daily basis. Day-ahead (DA) module runs AC optimal power flow (AC OPF) analysis in the grid with predicted load profiles of smart buildings and calculates the optimal load profile within the contract conditions. Intra-day (ID) module allows DSO to improve DA schedule by triggering ID flexibility profiles with real-time measurements and prices. The proposed tool is based on multi-module interconnection and communication between the smart buildings and DSO. Moreover, the tool provides database scheme for both sides, as well as user interface for DSO.
