Strengthening Growth Through Economic Cooperation: The Case of SEE Countries
In the countries of South-Eastern Europe, strong economic growth has been lacking in the last 30 years. In these countries, the global economic crisis that began in mid-2008 was followed by a very slow economic recovery. The latest economic trends are significantly determined by covid-19 pandemic. The main consequences are a decline in real GDP, rising unemployment, a significant drop in tourism activity, falling demand for durable goods and rising public debt. The realization of stronger economic growth is possible by stimulating investment activity, investing in innovations and new technologies, improving export competitiveness, and strengthening mutual economic cooperation. The biggest weakness of economic cooperation among the countries of South-Eastern Europe is the lack of mutual investments in the real sector.
