Advantages of applying mathematical modelling to certain problems in the hotel industry
The number of problems to which mathematical modelling is applied, or moreover, to which it can be applied is growing as a result of both the development of information technology and the development of theoretical and practical research in this field. Unlike in other activities that have a long tradition in the use of mathematical models, in the hotel industry mathematical modelling is not widespread and only rarely will owners and managers choose to apply this method, especially in transition countries. Hence, this paper seeks to illustrate certain standard problems, occurring in the hotel industry of Croatia as a transition country, to which mathematical modelling has never been applied in problem solving. These are foremost problems involving forms of nutrition and the planning of human resources. The review focuses on understanding the advantages of this approach and the prerequisites to its implementation.
