Fast fashion and circular economy: comparation between Portugal and Croatia

The fast-fashion model, consists of renovation and rapidity, that is, constantly, the fashion industry produces pieces of clothing, taking into account the latest trends, with low storage and high turnover, which makes the marketing of the products quick and consumers always get new clothes at an affordable price and increasing the amount of possible produced textile residues from being reused.Given the need to understand the reality of these concepts, we proposed as goals of this study, the appreciation of the fast fashion concept and its relationship with the circular economy through a comparison between Portugal and Croatia and the evaluation of the production of textile waste, the operations of waste management, volume of sales and the application of a questionnaire to the study popuIation. This study was presented as level II, observational, analytical and cross-sectional cohort. The target population of this study was the population of Portugal and Croatia. A questionnaire was conducted and data were collected from the analysis of waste reports and from EuroStat. Results were evaluated using the IBM SPSS Statistic program through descriptive statistics and Chi-Square independence test.PortugaI has a larger volume of clothing purchases compared to Croatia, and at the same time the portuguese produce more textile waste. One of the main reasons associated with the production of textile waste is related to the increase in last fashion. It is important to encourage the circular economy, to stress the importance of stimulating the recycling of textile materials, to emphasize the need to increase clothing collection and to invest in recycling technologies. The creation of a new model for the textile sector is necessary, in which clothes, fabrics, and fibers re-enter the economy after their use and never end up as waste through the creation of a closed system.
