Price-optimal Electrical and Thermal Energy Flow Control within Microgrid – Smart Grid Interaction

In this paper 3Smart platform based on model predictive control is designed for the primary school building and sports centre in Idrija, Slovenia. The goal is to maximize benefits of energy sources and storages present on the site via optimally shaped energy exchange with the distribution grids including demand response functionality. Novelty of this paper is in consideration of both thermal and electrical energy flow shaping by controlling a combined heat and power unit (CHP) and domestic hot water preparing through a combination of an electrical heater and a heat exchanger.
