Analytical Research Regarding the Methodological Suitability of the Multi- Criteria Analysis for the Scientific Evaluation of the Coastal Area

The coastal area has always attracted people because of a lot of opportunities and advantages to continental parts. Today a growing number of non/compatible economic and social activities have a significant impact on coastal development. Some countries are particularly aware of the lack of valuation and unplanned access to the organization of the coastal area. After the year 1995, numerous pressures on coastal areas faced Croatia that requires an appropriate decision-making system. The authors' focus is on the sustainable management of the coastal area. The purpose of the research is to propose criteria for evaluating the coastal area. The particular aim of the paper is to select a suitable method for solving the problem. Existing experience in evaluating the excellent value of the area justified the validity of using multicriteria analysis. Thus, methods allow an overview and evaluation of many aspects of the problem across different criteria. Some several methods and technics can be used to solve a defined problem, such as linear programming, AHP, ELECTREE, PROMETHEE, GAIA, scenario methods, and others, where the authors' experience in this area is different. Following the research problem, the authors suggest using the PROMETHEE and GAIA methods.
