A Contribution to the understanding of Altars and Tombs of the Confraternity called "Scuola dei Albanesi, Croati a cavallo and Oltramarini" in Zadar Churches, XVIIth-XVIIIth century (Croatia)
In the first part of paper the author examines the ideological, political and other symbolic contents of the Chapel of St Jerome and the altar of the Confraternity of "Albanesi, Croati a Cavallo and Oltramarini" which enjoyed the elite status within the Venetian army, in the St Simon Church in the city of Zadar (Zara). The main investor and caretaker of the altar was Colonel Simone Fanfogna, who was a distinguished commander of Venetian army and a nobelman from Zadar. The author show how this chapel serves as an example of the public-private partnership. The author refers to notable personalities who were buried in the tomb in front of the altar of St Jerome. In the second part of the paper the author deals with some more tombs in the churches in Zadar where members of the mentioned confraternity were buried and generaly members of Venetian military units (Croati a cavallo, Soldati albanesi), as well as their wives and daughters from the early 17century to the end of the 18 century
