Introduction of the Minimal Friction Loss Criterion Into the Calculation of Involute Cylindrical Gears
The standard gears calculation procedure consists basically of two iterative phases: determination of the geometry and strength control which comprises the tooth-root strength control, the tooth-flank pressure (pitting) control and sometimes the scuffing load capacity control. After the center distance of the meshing gears has been determined, the choice of the addendum modification coefficients follows mostly according to the strength-criterion, g.e. DIN 3992. Because of the increasing importance of energy conservation and environment protection, the minimal friction loss criterion has to be introduced into the standard gear computation as the decisive one. The acceptance of this criterion can result in significant energy savings. Formulae for easy application of the proposed new criterionre given.
