THE STYLE OF OPTIONAL COMMUNICATION THROUGH TRADITIONAL AND CONTEMPORARY NOTIONS

Whenever it is possible, we all like to use informal communication methods when talking to friends, colleagues or family members. In particular, informal communication is expressed among younger generations who, in situations where they are required to speak a certain standard, skillfully „jump into“ a style of communication that is close to them. Due to the specificity of the said communication, there are few studies in this field, but in order to speak about the characteristics of the same, it is important to outline the different theoretical concepts in the field of functional stylistics throughout the world as well as in Croatia, which will be presented in the work. The interest to study this style in the Anglo-American area is associated with the emergence of the pragmalinguistic theory of acts of speech as well as the increased interest in the study of dialogue as the dominant form of colloquial style. These theoretical assumptions are based on the concepts of Marina Katnić-Bakaršić who will use the conversational style as a stylistic determinant and define it as an unprepared style, by spontaneity, since it is realized in informal situations, yet it requires a fast response, shifting of speakers who exchange lines while interrupting statements at times as well as interrupting each other and similar (Katnić-Bakaršić, 2001, pp. 95). Conversational language is not recognized a priori by individual authors because it cannot be standardized or territorially unified, therefore these same authors deny the existence of the conversational style. Authors such as Stjepan Babić will place it between inner-dialect and the standard, while authors such as Hudeček, Frančić, Mihaljević will separate it as something that belongs to the standard and something that does not belong to the standard. It has also been seen as a stylistic determinant but it was related to the term private discourse.
