Experimental Performance Evaluation of Mobile IPv6
Mobile Internet Protocol (Mobile IP) is an Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) solution for terminal mobility in the Internet. The Mobile IP enables a host to change its point of attachment to the Internet, while remaining reachable to other hosts and transparently maintaining its active transport-layer connections and bindings. The Mobile IPv6 is based on the next generation Internet Protocol, IPv6. As the Mobile IPv6 specification is work in progress, the software support for Mobile IPv6 mainly experimental. In this paper, we describe our experience with Mobile IPv6 in a laboratory IPv6 network, using both commercial and open-source software. We present measurements and results performed in several different scenarios and conclude with an overall evaluation of the selected Mobile IPv6 implementation.
