The Significance of Family Therapy in the Process of Treatment of Alcoholism
The family disturbances, caused by the presence of alcoholism inside the family system, become manifest in the family very early. The behavioural disturbance of one family member causes the change in the entire family system and leads to the establishment of dysfunctional homeostasis. It is significant for the success of treatment of alcoholism to change the relations among the family members systematically, to establish better communication, to solve numerous individual and family disturbances and give support to the family to persist in creating the new and the more successful way of functioning. All of this provided by the family therapy. This approach is successfully applied for the treatment of alcoholism at the Clinic for Psychiatry, Alcoholism and other Addictions for about thirty years. One of the more significant of the treatment is also carrying out the family therapy. This study has been aimed to show what significance the family therapy has for improving the communication inside the family system and for achieving the higher quality of life. In this study, we have included 52 families, undergoing the family therapy for three months. The results show that the family therapy is a very important segment in the process of treatment of alcoholism
