Electrochemical Characterization Of Proton Exchange Membrane Electrolyzer Under Various Operating Conditions
This paper presents experimental tests made to evaluate the effect of various operating parameters on the performance of proton exchange membrane water electrolysis (PEMWE) cell. PEM electrolyzer single cell with 45 cm2 active surface area and Nafion N117 membrane, Ir-Ru oxide as anode catalyst and Pt black as cathode catalyst, was examined by polarization curves and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) at three different current densities, at three temperatures and three cathode backpressure values. In order to systematically determine the effect of operating parameters, the obtained polarization curves were compared with the EIS measurements under these conditions, and with those obtained in the previous PEM fuel cell studies to find common links between relevant electrochemical processes.
