The influence of numerical soil model type on dynamic response of reinforced concrete frame structures

In engineering practice, it is common to support numerical models of structures using a non- deformable medium. However, it is clear that the underlying soil's compliance and stratification can affect the seismic response of the structure. The influence of soil compliance and stratification on the behavior of structures subjected to dynamic loading has been investigated through various approaches of soil foundation modeling. The study was conducted on 70 different cases. Three real soil profiles and two different structures were observed. The soil is modeled in three different ways. The dynamic analysis was performed using five different records of real earthquakes. Finally, the paper investigates the relationship between the magnitude of the top displacement of the structure and the frequency content of ground motions observed.
