Effect of fungicides for the control of powdery mildew (Erysiphe heraclei D.C. f. sp. dauci Jacz.) on carrot and the problem of residues in the root
EFFECT OF FUNGICIDES FOR THE CONTROL OF POWDERY MILDEW (Erysiphe heraclei D.C. f. sp. dauci Jacz.) ON CARROT AND THE PROBLEM OF RESIDUES IN THE ROOT - Carrots are grown around Zadar on large areas and powdery mildew (Erysiphe heraclei D.C. f. sp. dauci Jacz.) has proved to be a serious problem In some years. The application of fungicides Is therefore necessary. Sulphur is the only fungicide permitted in Croatia, so, we tested some new fungicides (Table 1). The results obtained show that hexaconazole, pirifenox and penconazole gave the best protection from the disease. Sulphur was the worst fungicide as we expected considering the long period between the first and second treatment. The analyses carried out in root 14 and 30 days after treatments, show high quantity of residues of all IBS fungicides tested, except for hexaconazole.
