Anglicisms in Songs of a Croatian Band Psihomodo Pop: Orthographic and morphological analysis
With globalization and dominance of English language in everyday communication it is to no surprise that English started interfering with other languages. Influence of the English language can be found in all European languages, including Croatian. New Anglicisms are entering Croatian on daily basis in both adapted and unadapted forms. The main focus of this thesis is on the orthographic and morphological adaptation of Anglicisms in songs of the Croatian band Psihomodo Pop. The main goal was to analyse them according to the theoretical and practical framework introduced by Croatian linguist Rudolf Filipović. The results of this analysis on the orthographic level show that majority of Anglicisms of the corpus are adapted according to the pronunciation of the model, closely followed by next two principles: according to the orthography of the model and according to the combination of the two. Analysis on the morphological level resulted with 75% of Anglicisms in Psihomodo Pop’ songs being nouns and majority of Anglicisms were adapted according to zero transmorphemization.
