Developing computer literacy among elementary school children – Education for the future

Based on many years of research into the use of information and communication technology in teaching, the authors first offerred a theoretical review of the importance and the role of contemporary forms of literacy and informatics curriculum in several European countries, after which they focused on researching several aspects of the current level of computer literacy among pupils, using the example of Croatian elementary schools which participate in CARNET’s Digitally Mature Schools project, which is a continuation of the e-School project. Having analyzed the collected data (N=248), the authors have observed a high degree of computer literacy among pupils, attributing it to the positive and stimulating impact that the teachers and management of the school have had on the use of digital innovations in teaching ; thus, allowing pupils to become more active participants in the educational process.
